01 / The problem

Senegalese property portals are flooded with outdated or dubious listings: places already rented, unrealistic prices, unverified advertisers. Guiding principle: 500 genuinely available, reliable properties beat 20,000 stale listings.

02 / The solution

A complete platform: a public website and professional area in Next.js, a Flutter app for Android and iOS, a Laravel API and an admin back office. Its signature feature, the “Property Passport”, gives every property a unique reference and a history of dated checks (advertiser identity, location, photos, documents, availability). Map search, automatically computed listing freshness, moderation, favorites, messaging and viewing requests.

03 / Architecture

Architecture

Monorepo: a Laravel REST API (modular monolith, Sanctum, Horizon queues), PostgreSQL with PostGIS for geographic search, Redis; a Next.js, React and Tailwind CSS website with a Leaflet map; a Flutter app with flutter_map. Permissions enforced server-side by Policies (7 roles, from visitor to super admin), business rules in configuration rather than hard-coded, CI on every push, encrypted backups and a pre-deployment configuration check.

04 / Technical challenges

Technical challenges

  1. 01Separating the physical property from its listings so a property is never duplicated
  2. 02Computing each listing's freshness from availability confirmations, with configurable thresholds
  3. 03A single source of business rules for web and mobile, through the same API
  4. 04Fast geographic map search with PostGIS

05 / Highlights

Highlights

  1. 01Property Passport: dated checks and history for every property
  2. 02Map search with price pins and listing freshness
  3. 03Web, Android, iOS and back office on a single API

06 / Results

Results

  1. 01Web, mobile app, API and back office in a single repository
  2. 02Property Passport, map of listings, publishing, moderation and account verification
  3. 03Interface designed in Figma, in light and dark mode, with an accessibility review

Lesson learned

“On a trust platform, data quality matters more than volume: the whole model was built around verification and freshness, not the number of listings.”
